Sandy graduated in 2005 with a Master in the Audiovisual Arts at the current LUCA school of Arts in Genk. There, she experimented among others with the medium (animation) film, by integrating it in installation art and mobile media. Sandy has won various prizes for her animation films. She further explored the border between installation and media during her doctoral studies at the Department of Architecture at KU Leuven, where she did design research on the role that media architecture can play in engaging citizens with data, and generating citizen participation.
After successfully completing her doctoral research in 2017, Sandy continued her research interests at VRT Innovation, where she currently focuses on the narrative possibilities of media in a public space, cocreation of media and citizens, and the role that data can play. Sandy also has several publications in top conferences as ACM CHI en DIS, and PerDis, NordiCHI, InfoVis. She was also the Associate Chair for CHI Late Breaking Work 2019.
