VRT Innovation projects

VRT Innovation carries out research projects of two to three years long on the creation, management, distribution and consumption of media content. The interdisciplinary team consists of more than 20 researchers with an expertise in many facets of media production and media management. This team is often complemented with VRT professionals from the creative domain to establish a link between the research project and the production floor.

During these projects, VRT works together with Flemish and European partners: academic organizations (imec, VUB), broadcasters (BBC, IRT, RAI) and advisory groups. The main sources of funding are the Horizon 2020 programme, Flanders Innovation & Entrepreneurship (VLAIO), and the Google Digital News Initiative.

The eventual research results and new technologies contribute to the day-to-day operation of VRT and other media organizations, in Flanders and beyond.
